New preprint with Akash Vijay: Holographically Emergent Gauge Theory in Symmetric Quantum Circuits — A holographic view of symmetric random circuits: averaging out the non-symmetric part yields a noisy Z_N surface code, and the charge-sharpening transition becomes a confinement transition of the emergent gauge theory.
