for prospective students and postdocs

We are always glad to hear from people who want to work on quantum many-body physics, quantum information, and quantum error correction. A specific topic matters less than a solid theory background (quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and some comfort with linear algebra and programming) and an interest in the questions on the research page.

graduate students

Prospective Ph.D. students apply to the Illinois Physics graduate program (the deadline for fall admission is in mid-January). Admission is decided by the department, not by individual groups, but mentioning your interest in the group in your statement helps us find your application. Students already at Illinois are welcome to email Jong Yeon to set up a meeting; a good first step is to read one of the group’s recent papers and come with questions.

postdocs

Openings are announced here and on the usual job boards when they are available. If you are interested in a postdoctoral position, email Jong Yeon with a CV and a short description of your research interests. Illinois also has several fellowship programs (through IQUIST and the Anthony Leggett Institute of Condensed Matter Theory, among others); we are happy to support strong candidates who wish to apply.

what to send

A CV, a paragraph on what you would like to work on, and (for postdocs) the names of two or three references, to jongyeon [at] illinois.edu.
